This MSc Public Policy and Management allows you to explore how policy works, from origins to implementation. It is ideal if you are working close to government, wish to do so, or are interested in how policies make our politics. Why choose this course? It is taught by academics engaged with contemporary policy theory, and connected to the policy world in Westminster and Whitehall. Its vibrant teaching and seminars draw on topical and relevant themes, from AI, science and policy-making, to money in politics. It offers you knowledge of the theory and practice of contemporary policy-making by blending theoretical insights with applied, real-world practice. What you will learn This course will provide you with a deeper insight into the people and institutions that make policy happen. It aims to develop your analytical skills and applied reasoning, while honing your knowledge of contemporary theory. It will help you to build the skills you need to apply ideas to real-world cases and studies, and is ideal if you are working, or seeking a career, in public policy research and implementation. How you will learn You can study this course full- or part-time and it follows an evening timetable with classes in the evening. These consist of lectures and seminars. Lectures aim to blend up-to-date theory with applied examples and are recorded to allow you to watch them at your own convenience. Seminars give you the chance to engage in live discussions, debates and analyses of contemporary topics ranging from how lobbying shapes politics, to whether the UK government ‘followed the science’ during the Covid pandemic. This degree is part of our Birkbeck Flexible Master's UK, which gives you the choice of how you want to study - on campus, online or via flexible learning, which combines both. If you require a Student visa to study in the UK, you will only be able to apply for the on-campus study option for this course. Online and flexible options will not be available to you because they may affect the conditions of your visa.
A second-class honours degree (2:2) or above in a related area, or relevant experience combined with an adequate academic background (subject to interview).
