Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), our BSc Psychology degree (with integrated year studying abroad) at Aberystwyth University will allow you to gain a scientific understanding of the processes from which learn, think, feel, and adapt to our social conditions. This four-year degree includes a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities. In addition, our BSc Psychology degree investigates human behaviour from infancy to old age and deals with the biological, social, and individual factors that affect human psychology. On this course, you will work and engage with lecturers who use their research to create an inspiring learning environment in which you can develop your own thinking in a safe and supportive department. Our ethos is to teach in a way which enables you to develop conceptual and theoretical knowledge to solve problems in real-world scenarios. During the four-year course, you will explore and learn about human development and the intricacies of what makes us humans tick and how we navigate the complex internal and external environment as well as the mechanics and effects of what happens when these systems stop working well. The year abroad takes place during the third year where students study at one of our partnered universities. The Department of Psychology has established academic study partnerships in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Europe, Malaysia and the USA. At Aberystwyth, we offer a wide range of modules that allow you to explore the varied aspects of Psychology. Students on our Psychology degrees have access to exciting research tools to understand brain and cognitive activity as well as behavioural measurements equipment. Our Psychology degree will give you a broad foundation in psychology that enables you to tailor your interests and provide you with a solid platform for a varied number of career opportunities. Students on our Psychology course will be joining one of the largest departments in the university. What will I learn?

Psychology is a multifaceted discipline and the structure of our degree and how you are taught reflects this. Our ethos is to teach in a way which enables you to develop conceptual and theoretical knowledge that you can apply to solve problems in real world scenarios. To support you in this, your British Psychological Society accredited degree is built around essential core topics in psychology, which serve as the basis for the varied and specialised optional modules we offer in the second and final years.


How will I be taught?

Your academic and intellectual development are at the heart of the Aberystwyth Psychology experience. Our staff are committed to a student-focused approach to teaching, making your learning needs a priority in both what we teach and how we teach you. When you join us, you will be assigned a personal tutor who will support you throughout your degree and is there to advise and guide you on a range of academic and personal matters. From traditional lectures to small group work, we deliver inspirational teaching through a wide variety of different formats. You will also get to apply your knowledge in lab-based workshops and practicals, where you will be able to benefit from our wide range of specialist research equipment and facilities.
