Our MSc in Psychological Research Methods will allow you to stand out from the crowd, and give you a competitive edge against your peers, positioning you to get ahead in the field. Entry into the very best jobs in psychology is highly competitive, and accessing positions in corporate or government organisations – or being accepted onto an in-demand clinical or PhD training programme – is a difficult task, even for those graduating with the highest grades from a Psychology undergraduate degree. With this programme, you can take control of your future as a skilled psychologist. All of our Psychology Master's programmes are approved as training for postgraduate studies by the Economic and Social Research Council. Our Master’s in Psychological Research Methods is ideal for anyone with a background in Psychology (or a related field) who is keen to go forward into the competitive world of professional psychology, or is seeking to better position themselves for undertaking a PhD. This Master’s programme is both rigorous and rewarding, providing you with the skills and expertise you will need to undertake a career within psychological research, or progress onto a PhD programme. In our Department, we aim to equip you with a portfolio of highly in-demand researching techniques that will be coveted by a wide range of employers and potential PhD supervisors, positioning you for an enriching career after you graduate.
Students need to have 2:1 Hons degree (UK or equivalent) in Psychology or related cognate discipline. Their degree must have covered some Statistics and Research Methods modules. We will also consider applications on an individual basis where they have a degree in an unrelated subject, or a 2:2 or equivalent result. In these cases, they should clearly demonstrate how their experience and skills have prepared them for postgraduate study, in particular providing them with a background in statistics and research methods appropriate to psychology.
