From top feature films to big budget TV and streaming series, high-end productions need skilful prosthetics professionals who know how to wow audiences, with almost 60,000 people working in the film industry. In direct response to calls from screen employers for better skills training, our Prosthetics for Film and Television postgraduate course will teach you the advanced techniques to create unique characters for the screen in this exciting and highly competitive sector.Our course at University College Birmingham is led by prosthetics experts who have worked on famous productions including Game of Thrones, Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Who. Learning from the pros, you will master your technical skills in our cutting-edge prosthetics suite, including an editorial studio to photograph and screen test work for your portfolio. You will also learn how to deal with complex issues behind the scenes, including how to change and refine designs as a production progresses.To give you the advantage in what is predominantly a freelance-driven industry, our prosthetics master’s course features a voluntary placement to give you valuable real-world experience. In addition, you will learn how to answer the most diverse commercial briefs and build on your entrepreneurial skills, ensuring you are ready to go out and make your mark.
A grade classification of 2:2 is required, or international equivalent. A subject-related UK or International honours degree from a recognised institution (with a sound knowledge of prosthetics make-up). We will have applicant days where you will be able to showcase your prior work to the teaching team, allowing them to get a better understanding of your core skill sets so as to ensure you have an excellent transition onto this programme.
