This BSc (Hons) Professional Practice is a flexible programme designed to enable suitably qualified and experienced practitioners to 'top up' a Level 5 qualification to a degree, through a number of different pathways. This course can also be studied full-time over one year, or spread over up to six years.
What will this course cover?
The course requires you to complete a total of 120 credits at Level 6, typically from four 30 credit modules. You can choose the modules you wish to study from a number of options depending on your study interests or the pathway you wish to follow. However, the final module must be either the Dissertation module or the Research and Innovation in Practice module.
For the Renal Care pathway, the Theoretical Concepts in Renal Care module and the Renal Care Practitioner module are both core. The final module is also core and must be either the Dissertation module or the Research and Innovation in Practice module.
Indicative content includes:
Renal anatomy and its relationship to the physiology of normal renal function and pathophysiology of renal dysfunction
All aspects of chronic kidney disease from diagnosis through to end stage renal disease and the different renal replacement therapies available
An overview of renal diseases and other related diseases associated with renal failure, their care and the medical and nursing management
The psychological and psychosocial implications of renal failure for patients
Current local and national guidelines such as Renal Association clinical practice guidelines, renal national service framework, clinical governance in the provision of renal specialist care.
