This Level 6 course is appropriate for the post-16 education and training sector. An honours degree (2:2) is required for entry to the programme. This course will help you to develop your teaching skills, reflect on current ideas about education and training, and creatively explore the professional opportunities open to you. You will gain a professional qualification in further, higher or adult education and training.
It is offered to those currently in teaching as a part-time (two year) course. You should be in paid employment as a trainer or teacher, and you will be required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of relevant current group teaching or over two years of the course.
The course combines lectures, seminars and work experience to provide you with a conceptual and practical understanding of how to influence the quality of teaching, learning and assessment across multiple contexts in the post-16 sector. You will learn alongside other teaching professionals and acquire adult learning theory which will be applied to your own practice.
You will be able to train to teach in any subject area, including Mathematics, English or SEN.

Students completing these programmes can progress on to Qualified Teacher Learning and
Skills (QTLS) status, or onto degree level study.
Students completing the PGCE may wish to progress and study a Masters degree.
There is also the potential to progress into paid employment in the placement organisation, secondary school or Further Education sectors.
All potential applicants are required to attend and successfully pass an interview and will need to fulfil the follow entry criteria to be offered a place on the programme: Five GCSE subjects, including three at GCSE level Grade C or above (which must include English and Mathematics) and a minimum of two A level (minimum grade D) or equivalent qualifications. These can be in any subject. A UK degree (min 2:2) or equivalent in the subject you wish to teach. If the degree is not in your main teaching area, you will be required to hold at least a minimum of NVQ (NQF) level 3 in your vocational area. All places are subject to a satisfactory enhanced check for regulated activity with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), formerly known as a Criminal Records Bureau check.
