Why choose this course?This course qualifies registered practitioners as Independent and Supplementary Prescribers (commonly known as the V300) able to provide the knowledge, skills, and training to prescribe safely and competently. It is for those who have the support of their employer and prescribing or are self-employed, met their professional body’s and the University’s criteria for admission, and are working in a role that requires them to independently prescribe.The course takes place over 2 semesters leading to 40 level 7 credits and is validated by the NMC and HCPC. What happens on the course?This course covers the essential aspects required for non-medical prescribing where you will study pharmacology and prescribing practice. The module is taught over 2 semesters (6 months) and you will be required to undertake clinically supervised hours within your field of practice and achieve the competencies within the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Competency Framework for All Prescribers which is validated by the NMC and HCPC.You will need to be a registered practitioner whose regulatory body (the NMC or HCPC) allows for annotation as an Independent and Supplementary Prescriber (V300). You should be in a role that requires prescribing, and you will need support from your employer and prescribing leads as part of the admission process. This course contributes to your advancing clinical role and supports your development as a prescriber.You could progress to a full MSc programme using our recognition of prior learning process. Please note: If progressing to the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice, you will be required to complete the ACP Health Assessment module.
