Overview

Explore the current understanding of education for those with autism

This Postgraduate Certificate has been designed for those interested in gaining accreditation and specialist knowledge in the education of children and adults on the autism spectrum.

Through critical debate you will explore the current understanding of autism and evaluates how theory and research has been applied to educational provision and practices.

The education of children and young adults on the autism spectrum has been a key area for development on government agendas and in local authority education policies.

As educationalists, we need to rethink how children and young adults on the autism spectrum are learning in inclusive classrooms, how we recognise their skills and abilities and create opportunities for them to have a say in how they learn.

Successful completion of the PGCert Autism Education will give you 60 credits towards the MA Inclusive Special Education.

On this course you will:

  • Gain specialist knowledge in the education of children and adults on the autism spectrum.
  • Earn 60 credits towards an MA in Inclusive Special Education.
  • Learn from experts with personal, practical, and academic experience of autism.

Careers

Open up a wide variety of professional careers within education

There is the potential that this PGCert will contribute to you applying for a specialist role working with autistic children and young adults.

Graduates can also use this course as a means to progress into educational administration roles or consultants, as well as work for local or national government with a focus on public education systems.

This course is also designed to maximise career opportunities in a diverse range of alternative settings.
