Explore the fundamental building blocks of our universe with MSci Physics with Particle Physics & Cosmology. With advanced study and independent research, you'll thrive in a friendly and supportive environment. Search for answers to the biggest questions by exploring the smallest particles and their interactions. Build problem-solving, programming, mathematical and teamwork skills giving you a competitive edge when job hunting. This course is accredited by the Institute of Physics. The summary reads: 'This is a major and important physics department residing in one of the UK's premier universities. It is highly organised, well-run and benefits from a dedicated set of academic staff. Physics is presented through well-planned degree programmes, supported by a range of excellent facilities'. From quantum mechanics and nuclear physics to the structure of the universe and observational cosmology, join us to study the essential concepts and specialist topics. You’ll learn from global experts taking part in cutting-edge research at CERN and other international laboratories and observatories. You could even visit CERN yourself and have a tour around the lab. You’ll benefit from state-of-the-art study spaces, computing suites and laboratories. During your final year you’ll join a research group and apply your knowledge to an individual project, developing high-level research skills. Our research spaces include our own particle accelerators, the MC40 cyclotron for charged particles and HF-ADNeF, the most intense accelerator driven neutron source worldwide, as well as labs used for the construction of the detectors and electronics used in the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. Work alongside renowned academics who are pushing the frontiers of scientific knowledge. Our researchers will teach your lectures, lead your labs, act as your personal tutors and supervise your projects. Modules are assessed in a variety of ways: exams, class tests, problem sheets, lab assignments and project reports. There is a strong emphasis on project work in the final year of your degree course. Lab work is assessed continuously throughout the term.
