As part of this course, you'll:

Discover all aspects of physical education, including different teaching and learning approaches, how to work inclusively with diverse groups, and the benefits of lifelong physical activity

Gain hands-on experience by working with young people in a variety of settings including teaching PE in primary, secondary and special schools, engaging with external organisations, and leading community groups

Apply an understanding of research into a variety of settings to explore, investigate and examine the experiences of others that you are supporting and educating

As well as practical sessions which explore approaches to teaching and learning, you’ll use our specialist sports facilities to study the physiology and psychology behind human movement and behaviour. Your theoretical and practical learning will be extended by the varied employability opportunities available on the course. Your experiences will also be enhanced by work placements, guest speakers, external visits, and real-life case study assessments.

Teaching & Learning

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Career Prospects

The multidisciplinary nature of this physical education degree will offer you flexibility if you are still undecided about your career, or the chance to specialise if you know exactly where you want to be in three years' time. For example, you may wish to work as a PE teacher, in community sport settings with specialist populations, in health promotion, in coaching or in personal training. Whatever you choose, this course will prepare you for employment in a diverse job market. Alternatively, you could progress your studies with one of our postgraduate courses.
