Biomolecular tools and approaches are fundamental to many areas of research that study microbial, animal and plant systems. Furthermore, modern research within the fields of ecology and evolution is underpinned by the biomolecular sciences, through the use of advanced methodologies in genomics, metabolomics and analytical chemistry, as well as computational biology. Biomolecular science focusses on understanding biological processes, whether within an individual cell or tissue, a whole organism or within an ecosystem, at a molecular level. Research within the School that encompasses the biomolecular sciences includes bioarchaeological understanding of our past, population genetics, plant and soil ecology, biological responses to environmental stress, plant and microbial biotechnology, and microbial evolution.
