Summary Our research focuses on conditions including inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases and common painful disorders such as osteoarthritis. Full description Our work covers the spectrum from basic science and translational studies through early and late phase trials and health services research, with a focus on improving understanding and therapy for these diseases. We collaborate with the Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering, which has expertise in the area of musculoskeletal systems with research focusing on joint replacement, tissue re-engineering and functional spinal interventions. We also work with the School of Dentistry, which is focused on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of oral and other diseases, particularly musculoskeletal,in order to improve treatment, restore function and address the needs for prevention. We are in close partnership with the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, particularly as a strategic partner in the Leeds Biomedical Research Centre (Leeds BRC) – a National Institute for Health Research-funded centre of excellence for translational musculoskeletal research. The Leeds BRC strives to deliver excellence in patient-based research and we have a strong Patient and Public Involvement Group embedded within it.
For most postgraduate research programs, a first-class or good upper second-class undergraduate degree (or equivalent) is often expected. Additionally, candidates may need to hold a Master's degree or an equivalent professional qualification.
