We focus on transnational, comparative and connective analysis of relations between the American continent and the rest of the world. Our research aims to promote the study and understanding of the history of the Western Hemisphere. We want to highlight the links between the Americas and the rest of the world by exploring the themes of: international political affairs, transnational movements and ideas, colonialism, war and imperialism, slavery and emancipation, race, class and gender, climate change.
Individuals planning to apply for research-based degrees (MA by Research/Mphil/PhD) are encouraged to contact the member of our staff most closely affiliated with their research interests in the first instance. Please include:A one to two page research proposal that is as specific as possible.An explanation of your background in the proposed area of research.A piece of written work, if feasible.This will enable the member of staff to advise you on whether they would be willing and able to supervise the project. We are always happy to discuss ideas to help candidates refine their proposal and improve chances of funding. Candidates should normally have, or be expected to obtain, a good honours degree or its equivalent in an appropriate subject at undergraduate level. Doctoral candidates are also expected to have completed or be pursuing a Master's course. IELTS: 7.0, with no less than 6.5 in each component TOEFL: 96, with no less than 23 in each component
