Global Health Research is focused on achieving improved health and equity for all people worldwide, and often requires cross-national and inter-sectoral collaboration.
The University of Liverpools Institute of Infection, Veterinary, and Ecological Sciences (IVES) was established to bring together leading medical, veterinary and basic science researchers from across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. It undertakes world-leading research in infection and global health, studying infectious diseases of humans and animals in nearly all parts of the world, with particular focus on the UK and sub-Saharan Africa.
Our global health research focuses on reducing the burden from infectious disease and antimicrobial resistance improving the health and welfare of animals and understanding and mitigating the impacts of environmental change on health. To facilitate this work, we have excellent research facilities in the Liverpool and Leahurst campuses, research bases in Kenya and Malawi, and strategic partnerships in India, China and many other countries.
Students will normally have a minimum of a 2:1 class honours degree in a relevant biological science subject, or an equivalent medical, veterinary or dental qualification. Applicants are selected on the basis of their curriculum vitae, qualifications and referees reports, together with their perceived ability to complete the programme successfully and on the value of the training offered to their subsequent career plans.
