The PhD by published work route is intended primarily for mid-career research-active academics who, for one reason or another, haven’t had the opportunity to undertake a research programme leading to a PhD. Submissions for this award will consist of a coherent body of work which is of the same quality, rigour and volume as required of a standard PhD in your field and which constitutes an original contribution to knowledge. Located in the heart of London, the School of Social Sciences has an active research culture to which our well-established doctoral research programme makes a vital contribution. The School incorporates well-established research programmes in politics and international relations, psychology, sociology and criminology, being home to three research centres. Research in the School across these fields has an international reputation for excellence, as was confirmed by the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.
