University of Exeter

Exeter is a beautiful city, it's quite small but well connected (trains to London and Bristol run every hour) but the night life is a bit limited. Its very well connected for the beach and exploring Dartmoor and Devon though and their are lots of student societies around. The library and librarians are brilliant and a great resource and there is a lot of support for SPLD as well. As part of the BMBS their is at least 1 year required to train in Cornwall - many students actually find they really enjoy Truro and working/living in Cornwall but its worth being aware of when you apply to the course. I have found the Exeter BMBS course has prepared me well for practical skills and lots of interest in planetary health and diabetes genetics. There is less focus on Anatomy at Exeter (although the course is being changed to increase the amount of anatomy teaching).

The library is nice and the campus is quite homely as it is quite small. I dont like the fact that we barely have any societies here in st lukes compared to streatham which is a bit unfair as we have to commute 40 minutes each way which is just not really feasible. I wissh there was a music societey on st lukes as i dont have time to go to streatham just for a societey

Beautiful place to study. St Luke's campus is gorgeous. I absolutely adore the 24/7 library as it makes studying so easy at all times of the week. The uni accomodation is a little bog standard. However the student support and encouragement in socials is great

Best aspects: The University of Exeter offers a very strong academic environment with knowledgeable and supportive teaching staff. The quality of teaching, access to research-led learning, and well-structured courses make it an excellent place to study. The campus is modern, green, and well-maintained, creating a positive atmosphere for both study and wellbeing. Student support services, libraries, and sports facilities are of a high standard, and there are plenty of opportunities for extracurricular activities, networking, and personal development. The university also has a strong reputation, which is beneficial for future career prospects. Worst aspects / areas for improvement: One of the main challenges is the high cost of accommodation and living expenses, which can be stressful for students. Communication between departments and students can sometimes be slow or unclear, particularly regarding assessments, placements, or administrative processes. Additionally, more career-focused guidance, placements, and practical exposure—especially for postgraduate and international students—would further enhance the overall student experience. Overall: The University of Exeter is a great place to study due to its academic quality, supportive environment, and campus facilities. With improved affordability, clearer communication, and stronger employability support, the student experience could be even better.

I really appreciate that St Luke’s provides a prayer room, which makes the campus welcoming and inclusive. For first-time visitors, having an internal map would make it much easier to find their way around.
