Our History PGCE is highly practical and deeply theoretical, engaging with a wide range of inspirational thinking and outstanding practice in history education. Student teachers learn to help young people to think historically when understanding the world, themselves, and others. You develop knowledge and understanding of how to plan, teach and assess learners across the full secondary age range. This course supports student teachers to develop learners’ ability to think historically by engaging them in the process of historical enquiry. Our university subject sessions and school placements are designed to help us to realise our commitment to making history accessible to all, to ensuring that young people connect with the history they are taught, to introducing history which may be sensitive and controversial and to engaging pupils with histories that vary in temporal, spatial and human scope. The value of historical understanding, and the ways in which historical thinking can enrich our lives, drives our approach to history education.
