Train to be a community public health nurse with a specialism in school nursing. With a strong theoretical grounding coupled with the practical experience developed on your placements, you will have the necessary expertise to meet the Nursing & Midwifery Council's high standards of care as a specialist nurse. There will be the opportunity to explore concepts of health behaviours and promotion in the public health arena, and you will also consider how to effectively meet the wellbeing needs of individuals, groups and wider communities. By exploring leadership and management in clinical practice, you will examine the challenges of delivering health and social care services in the current climate especially in relation to professional school nursing. At the end of your course as a qualified school nurse you will have the skills to deliver effective healthcare to children, young people and their families.
Applicants must be an NMC registered nurse (level 1) or an NMC registered midwife, should have at least a second class honours degree in the cognate subject of Health and be able to evidence recent professional development. Applicants who do not meet this academic requirement are advised to undertake the Professional Profile Development module in order to apply for recognition of prior (experiential) learning. Applicants will also need to secure a suitable practice placement in order to undertake the course. Applicants need to have consolidated their pre-registration nursing outcomes and to have gained a deeper understanding in relevant professional practice. All applications should be supported by two references, either academic or professional.
