Who is the course for
The course is aimed at students who completed Level 3 construction and the built environment qualification and Level 3 plumbing or Electrical installation qualification and wanting to continue their education through applied learning to gain the experience of the breadth and depth of the building services sector that will prepare them for further study or training.
The course is for students with a clear line of sight to progression to HND at Level 5 and to a degree at Level 6, as well as to gain the skill for work readiness in the sector.
Study Methods
You will study 15 supervised hours per week – made up of 11 hours theory, 3 hours practical activities and 1 hour tutorial. This works out as:
74% classroom based teaching
20% workshop and laboratory experiments
6% directed study and site visits.
You’ll be expected to spend about 22.5 hours per week in independent study - unsupervised at home, in the LRC or the workplace. This works out as:
10 hours working on assignment (45%)
5 hours research/ learning (22%)
2.5 hours compilation of evidences (11%)
5 hours e-learning (22%).
How is the course assessed
The course is assessed using 12 written assignments assessed and marked by your tutors. One assignment is set by Pearson - the remaining 11 assignments are HCUC set assignments. Assignments cover both the theory and the practical elements of the assessment at the ratio 4:1.
