BEng (Hons) Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (with Year in Industry)The design, use and disposal of ordnance, munitions, and explosives (OME) is vital to national defence interests and global treaty obligations. This underpins the requirement for expertise in explosives, their engineering, and their responsible regulation. A BEng in OME will provide you with an understanding of weapon systems from initial concept, design, and manufacture to their considerations of use in operational service, and final disposal at end of useful life. This course allows you to take several modules to suit your career path, such as systems engineering, explosion chemistry, principles of design, through to testing, evaluation, and breakdown. It becomes a critical qualification for those considering careers in civilian and non-civilian roles which use, handle or engineer explosives. This course is formally accredited by the Institute of Explosive Engineers (IExpE), allowing graduates to pursue professional chartered status.

Who is the course for?

This course has been designed specifically to provide an opportunity to a wide range of students wishing to pursue careers in UK defence and its associated industries, the broader global defence and security market, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, commercial explosive engineering enterprise, and humanitarian and developmental agencies facing clearance challenges. It aims to provide knowledge and transferable skills that will enhance employment potential across this entire field, problem solving, self-direction and informed communication skills.Students can learn in a structured and adult manner from academics and practical experts from across the OME professions. Full access to an outstanding learning environment and online literature through our extensive library facilities.

Why this course?

This course specialises in OME and is world class in teaching, research, and enjoys unrivalled access to industry, supporting agencies, and the Institute of Explosive Engineers. We have a diverse student body from numerous industries and institutions in the UK as well as overseas, providing a rich educational experience. Students are introduced to up-to-date and current research, which enables them to obtain a critical awareness of problem solving and the capacity to evaluate best practice in the OME discipline.
