Underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of human occupation, the full time BSc Occupational Therapy degree from Northumbria will allow you to develop the skills, confidence and knowledge required to prepare you for a career in occupational therapy. The course’s contemporary curriculum will develop your theoretical understanding of the links between occupation, health and wellbeing as well as your knowledge of the sciences, which inform professional understanding of human function. You will also gain knowledge of legislation and policy to enable practice in contemporary health and care environments. Thanks to education delivered through a series of lectures, workshops, and real-life simulation, this course will allow you to be eligible for professional registration following successful completion of your degree. An integral part of the programme is practice placement experience which add up to 1 third of your total time with us. By the end of the programme you will have completed a minimum of 1000 clinical hours within a mixture of NHS Trusts, Local Authority Services as well as possible opportunities within emerging areas of practice. The importance of people being actively engaged in occupations throughout life and periods of ill-health, transition and change is becoming increasingly recognised on a local, national and international level meaning now is a great time to enter this exciting profession.Northumbria University boasts strong links with many local organisations and our calibre of graduates is respected throughout the profession, which can be beneficial to your future employment prospects. There are currently many varied opportunities available within this sector and your registration with the HCPC will enable you to practice as a state registered occupational therapist. Completion of this course will enable to work the private or public sector, both in the United Kingdom or abroad.
