The most meaningful aspect of my university experience has been the transformation in how I understand both the world and myself. Studying Social Work has not simply been about acquiring knowledge, but about confronting uncomfortable realities, questioning my assumptions, and recognising my role within wider social structures. I have become more reflective, more aware of inequality, and more conscious of the ethical responsibility that comes with supporting vulnerable individuals. Engaging in discussions with peers and applying theory to real-life practice during placement has made the learning deeply personal. It has helped me move from passive understanding to active professional formation. At the same time, this journey has also been emotionally and intellectually demanding. There were moments when I questioned my capability, particularly when faced with critical feedback or when observing the complexity of people’s lived experiences in practice. Social work education requires emotional presence, critical thinking, and resilience all at once, which can feel overwhelming. Balancing academic expectations with placement responsibilities sometimes left me feeling stretched and uncertain. However, these challenges have been the most valuable teachers. They forced me to slow down, reflect, and develop resilience and self-discipline. I learned that growth often comes with discomfort, and that uncertainty is part of becoming a competent and ethical practitioner. Looking back, both the rewarding and difficult aspects have shaped my confidence, strengthened my professional identity, and affirmed my commitment to social work. This experience has not only prepared me academically, but has fundamentally changed how I see my purpose and contribution to society.

Bournemouth is a great place to study, the university buildings have such a lovely feel to them and the student's union has so much on.

The best aspects of uni life is the amazing student support service, including faith and reflection and the kind staff. I wish gym membership was included in the fees, as they are an expensive optional extra.
