You’ll also see how to support and educate families, so they can be involved in their child’s care. In your first year, you’ll study topics that are fundamental to children’s nursing, including concepts of caring, physical health sciences, and public health promotion, ensuring you have a solid foundation upon which to build the rest of your degree. During your second year, you’ll gain an appreciation for safeguarding by exploring an ethical situation that requires you to be an advocate for a child in your care. You’ll also identify a current healthcare issue and develop an innovative solution to this, to enhance the experience of service users. In your third year, you’ll develop your decision-making and leadership skills and will gain an interesting perspective into how psychosocial, spiritual, ethical and legal influences have an impact on the way patient care is provided. You’ll learn how to effectively assess and manage deteriorating patients, analysing and debating a range of treatment options and evidence, to inform a choice of strategies for managing their holistic delivery of care.
