My university also does a great job of providing enough study spaces during peak times, and the extended library hours are especially helpful during assessment periods. These small but thoughtful details make a big difference to everyday student life. The location is another strength. Hatfield is safe, peaceful, and well connected, with buses running directly through campus and shops, supermarkets, and essential services all close by. The campus itself feels welcoming. College Lane has a lively, green atmosphere, while de Havilland offers a more modern, professional environment. Together, they create a balanced space where different types of learners can feel comfortable. What stands out most is the support system. Staff are approachable, and services like academic skills support, wellbeing teams, and international student advisers make it easier to settle in and stay on track. The Students’ Union also brings the campus to life with events, societies, and opportunities to meet people from different backgrounds, helping students feel part of a real community. To make the experience even better, the university could expand affordable accommodation options, especially for students who want to live close to campus but face limited availability. More cultural, social, and career‑focused events throughout the year would also enrich student life and create even more opportunities for connection and growth.

Overall, my time at university has been both rewarding and challenging in ways that helped me grow academically and personally. One of the best things about my experience has been the quality of teaching and academic support. Many lecturers are passionate about their subjects and genuinely want students to succeed. The course content is engaging, up-to-date, and often linked to real-world applications, which makes studying feel relevant and purposeful especially for nursing students. The facilities and resources are also a major plus. The library, study spaces, and online learning platforms are well-equipped and accessible. Having modern facilities really enhances the overall learning experience. While my experience has been largely positive, there are areas that could be improved. At times, communication between departments and students can be unclear or delayed, especially regarding timetable changes or assessment feedback. In some modules, assignments are marked by an unknown member of staff rather than the seminar leader who has taught the group throughout the term. This can make feedback feel less personalised, as the marker may not be fully aware of the specific class discussions, expectations, or individual student progress. Having seminar leaders mark their own students’ work would likely lead to more tailored, constructive, and consistent feedback. It would also make it easier for students to follow up in person and have meaningful discussions about how to improve in future assessments.

I currently study at the University of Hertfordshire and my experience has been really positive so far. The lecturers are supportive and genuinely want students to succeed, especially in practical courses like nursing. The facilities are modern and well-equipped, which makes learning more engaging. Worst aspects: The most challenging aspect was managing workload during periods of overlapping assignments, placements, and exams. Balancing academic responsibilities with personal life sometimes felt overwhelming, but it taught me valuable skills in time management, prioritization, and resilience.
