Our Music Technology and Production (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) degree is a four-year course with a built-in foundation year.The course is a great fit if you want to study Music Technology and Production at undergraduate level, but do not meet the entry requirements for the traditional three-year course.Our students develop their skills by working towards a range of creative and practical projects, building a portfolio of music and audio work in a broad range of fields, guided by teaching staff with a wealth of music industry experience.In your foundation year you’ll learn key principles of creative practice in a range of fields, developing skills and understanding of the wider contexts of music, audio and its role in the creative industries.Later in the degree course, you will focus on music and audio production projects, developing songs, and skills in audio engineering.The foundation year will give you the chance to explore what your specific practice might be, with the option of specialising after this initial year. The integrated foundation year on this four-year course is shared with other foundation degrees, allowing you to study alongside students who are interested in a variety of other specialisms and disciplines within the School of Computing and Digital Media.Throughout your foundation year you’ll develop a music technology portfolio, displaying the key proficiencies you have learned through hands-on, practice-based exercises, you’ll explore the fundamental aspects of computer-based music production. The working practices and techniques you’ll develop include audio editing and mixing in our Music IT labs using Apple iMacs, MIDI keyboards and a range of professional standard software.
