Work with, and learn from, musical experts who will support you in professionalising your creative voice. You'll further your skillset across performance, composing, facilitating, teaching, and recording. In addition, our team will introduce you to the business side of being a professional musician.

Join a diverse and inclusive community of musicians who challenge themselves, established traditions, and the sector to improve the musical landscape across local, national, and international communities.

You will learn from industry experts across a series of guest lectures and seminars.

Our experienced tutors and guest speakers will encourage and equip you to develop your own creative practice.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop your professional identity as an artist
  • Have your compositions performed and recorded
  • Put on events in a wide range of venues on campus and in the city
  • Collaborate with other postgraduate students
  • Be a key part of a supportive community of artists

This course showcases the importance of critical development of musical, technical, and entrepreneurial skills for today’s artists. We recognise that modern musicians’ careers and portfolios can look significantly different from each other and will support you in establishing most effective professional strategies that reflect your artistic values.

Your tutors are all working musicians who actively engage in the contemporary creative industries. Their wide range of professional activities underpin the musical community at York St John University, a creative environment where you will reinforce who you are as a musician.

You'll be encouraged to find opportunities to make music and build your professional network outside of your course learning time. Any gigs and performances you do in your personal time can be included in your assessments and should be viewed as contributing to your personal development.
