Our MSc Psychology of Child Development course is designed to advance your knowledge of child psychology. Its ideal for graduates in Psychology (or related subjects) and a great development opportunity for professionals working with children. Throughout this course youll explore a wide range of theories and topics relating to the psychology of child development. Well give you a thorough grounding in research methods and analytical skills so that youll gain the ability to carry out empirical research in this field. In addition, youll gain an in-depth understanding of the latest theories, interventions and applications of psychology relevant to working with children and adolescents across a range of settings. Youll have access to extensive laboratory facilities. The School has developed two outstanding laboratory complexes in which you can develop a deeper understanding of the psychology of child development. The Child Observation Suite (COS) provides a facility for the observation, recording, coding and understanding of childrens behaviour. The Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience (DCN) lab enables a detailed examination of the brain and visual systems of young children and adolescents through a range of techniques, including eye tracking and electroencephalography (EEG).
Applicants should hold at least 2:1 degree in related subject including sufficient psychology content and research skills. This need not necessarily be a degree accredited by the British Psychological Society as applicants from related subject areas will be considered for a place on the course. The admissions policy of the School is, however, to consider every applicant on their own individual merits therefore prospective students with a lower second class degree and a final year project and/or research methods and statistics grades at a higher level will be considered.
