MSc Politics and International Relations (International Politics and Security)

SOAS University of London

the best aspect of my uni is that it has many study spots/ cafes etc, and the lecture halls are quite spacious and nice. the SU is also very supportive. I think one thing that could be improved about SOAS is the library categorisation, I feel it is a bit disorganised because it is hard to find a specific book in times of need

I have been gratified by the attentiveness of teachers and staff to my needs, especially when I had to take a leave of absence and return- very supportive

Teachers and Staff are helpful and supporting to students and diversity is significant. I didn't find anything bad about my University yet. It is recommended that management may make the process of module sign up further easier and smooth for students. Additionally prior to start of classes, there must be a session for new students on digital system of MySOAS and other platforms to get students familiar about the overall study system.

My university is astonishingly diverse & provides a wonderful learning environment. It has great faculty & student support.

Small uni so facilities are limited to the basics- no sports facilities or a student centre similar to the one at UCL. Sports related societies are few and far between so bear that in mind if you want to play a sport at uni. While there are some UoL sports clubs I haven’t seen these advertised during my time year and had to do my own research into those. Brilliant library though. The undergrad accommodation is in a great location and very well priced considering that. Other than that it’s not a great place to live. Two of the blocks have been refurbished but this is not mentioned on the website or on the application. In fact, it’s not mentioned at all and the only way you would know is from talking to a current/past resident. This means that everyone in the accom is paying the same price, but some people have better rooms/kitchens/bathrooms which doesn’t seem fair at all. The SU is average, late licenses at the bar are nice but most other events kinda suck. Most of what they organised during freshers week was very different from what you’d get at other unis so don’t come here expecting any fun club nights. I do wish we could have some of that more ‘normal’ stuff. They also send really annoying newsletters all the time that most people I know delete without opening. Overall, decent uni academically but you’re going to have to try if you want a good experience beyond that. Come with an open mind if you’re passionate about your subject, don’t expect to have a similar experience to your friends elsewhere.

This is my first experience and so far it’s good thanks to SOAS where the sense of community is big. Money can be short sometimes but there are a lot of things you can do/eat without spending too much. London is vibrant so you’re never bored so it’s nice
