Introduction

This Masters is for registered Social Workers to continue their professional development. Take opportunities for critical reflection and research on a programme tailored to your personal and practice requirements. Enhance your knowledge, skills and abilities as a Social Worker through a range of modules tailored to your professional requirements. You’ll be taught by registered Social Workers, who are experts in their field and passionate about your ability to succeed on the programme. We’ll support you to develop your practice and your commitment to inclusion and independence for people experiencing social work.

Your learning will draw upon your practice experiences and explore relationships between theory, practice, professionalism, and the use of self. You’ll learn from contributions from people with lived experience of Social Work (including carers) and demonstrate considerations for wider, socio-political influences.

How you'll be assessed

Teaching includes online lectures and workshops with taught sessions and tutorials which are mainly facilitated online, as well as optional face-to-face peer workshops. You’ll have access to our virtual learning environment on Canvas, where you’ll find the course materials and additional study skills support. Assessment methods include critically reflective essays and case studies, as well as patchwork texts and research proposals. The choice of major projects is designed to encompass a number of formats, including work-based projects, systematic reviews, and reflections of learning and applications to practice.

Careers

Registered Social Workers will benefit from the opportunities to develop their knowledge, skills and abilities as a professional practitioner and includes options for advanced training to specific roles such as the Approved Mental Health Professional. Studying on the course will meet the yearly professional requirements for continued professional development with Social Work England. You will gain Intermediate awards: PG Cert, PG Dip.
