Swansea University

Bay Campus has modern buildings which has amazing facilities. The lecturers are willing to help with the materials and the teaching is of high quality for research. The only thing I’d say negatively is being a student who lives at home which is a 30-40 minute drive, the parking is horrendous. I usually have to drive 2 hours early to every lecture and seminar to ensure there’s a parking space as the parking is very limited, the university say there’s no parking on campus which they say is their “sustainable” approach so students can take buses from Fabian way park and ride, or walk/cycle to campus. However, the park and ride is a 30 minute walk and the university’s feedback board is constantly lit up with complaints on the unreliable bus services with them either too full or not turning up at all so students are always late for lectures. Personally, I’ve not even attempted to try the bus service due to the amount of complaints I’ve heard. Resulting in cycling to campus during the winter when it’s freezing cold, wet and windy most days, with the cycle path not maintained at certain areas, which is dangerous. Swansea University need to extend parking so that students have more accessibility due to the isolated area which it’s placed at, and that students don’t waste hours every day travelling early in the hope there’s a parking space. The parking aspect has severely impacted my studies with the wasted time travelling in early to hope there’s a chance of a parking space, when there are multiple assignments due this adds unnecessary stress and time wasted, attendance affected due to this issue from mounted pressure of assignments.

Great environment to learn, world- class facilities, very warm staff. The only thing is the tuition which I feel is high compared to other universities.

Worst: It's very windy on the bay campus, especially in winter. Best: Swansea uni is officially the nearest uni to the sea. Stunning beach view on campus. A nice beach walk would always give us hope.

I have been at Swansea University for my bachelors, masters and so in love with the place that I am now moving onto my PhD. I hope that this will mean I will become a lecturer at the university and I will never have to leave. I went through stage 3 breast cancer in my undergraduate and I managed to pass with a 2:1 even though spending a year going through treatments including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. I solely believe that the support from the university has allowed me to get this far. My life has completely changed, from an under dog who was brought up in a town in Neath, I didn't have a very good upbringing and I was the first in my family to ever go to university. Now I've sailed through my undergrad and masters and cannot wait for the next challenge with PhD. I am fully well now and in remission but the lasting effects that Swansea University had on me in the worst times of my life will stay in my heart forever. The lecturers went above and beyond to ensure if I wanted to stay in university then they would do everything in their power to help me achieve that. I made life long friends in the teachers who I am still in contact with today. The place is absolutely beautiful, picturesque by the sea but that is just the rhetoric of the nice side of Swansea, the reality is that the students and staff are beyond beautiful.

I’m really enjoying my masters at Swansea University. The University is really supportive, especially during covid. There’s lots of career help available to prepare you for after University.
