Programme Overview

This programme is focused on contemporary human resource management (HRM) practice. It's designed to ensure you develop the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to deal effectively, systematically and creatively with issues around people management. HRM is a globally important functional area of all organisations.

The programme covers a wide range of HRM strategies, policies and procedures that organisations use to manage employees in both local and global contexts. You’ll also develop an understanding of the differences between HRM practices and employment systems of different countries and multinational organisations, and how they are influenced by economic, political and social factors.

You’ll share experiences with peers from all over the world, through workshops and activities, to develop professional and strategic thinking skills.

This programme will:

  • Develop your knowledge and understanding of contemporary HRM in a local and international context.
  • Develop a critical understanding of the complexities of managing employment systems.
  • Enable you to become HR managers who’ll have an influence on organisational performance and change.
  • Give you the opportunity to study and learn intellectual abilities and strength in a multicultural and stimulating academic environment.

During the final phase of the programme, you'll be able to self-select a project relating to international HRM. This can be used to highlight your acquired skillset to potential employers.

Learning and Assessment

MSc International Human Resource Management will set you up for a successful career in a constantly evolving industry. Learning outcomes include:

  • Critical evaluation of contemporary HR policies and practices in an international context.
  • Planning for the initiation, promotion, implementation and evaluation of development policies and organisational change.
  • Development of effective, evidence-based practices designed to support strategic objectives.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills relevant to current HR practice.

On Graduating from the Programme, You Will Know How To:

  • Critically evaluate contemporary HR policies and practices in different business, industry and organisational contexts.
  • Initiate, promote and implement organisational change and development policies.
  • Develop effective evidence-based practices and policies designed to support strategic objectives and effective human capital building, deployment and reconfiguration.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and negotiation skills relevant to contemporary HR practice.
  • Use effectively business research skills to address HR issues and practice aiming at organisational impact.
  • Undertake an autonomous research project where they can identify and justify a research question/s, design and implement a suitable research methodology, analyse data, discuss results and make suitable recommendations.
