Our MSc Intelligent Maintenance Engineering degree will prepare you for a thriving career at the heart of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ as advancements in artificial intelligence and smart machinery transform the way we work forever. Today’s world demands high efficiency, quality and reliability from industry products have to be made fast and without defects. This is only possible through the implementation of intelligent maintenance strategy in factories, plants and industry in general. Maintenance strategies are central to the smooth operation of complex industrial processes in a wide range of industries, including the automotive, pharmaceutical, nuclear, petrochemical and aerospace industries. On this course you’ll learn how to apply the latest maintenance techniques to increase productivity and reduce intensive labour. As the so-called ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ takes shape, industry requires highly skilled professionals who are able to work and interact with automatic processes and machines this is also true with maintenance. Maintenance is becoming more automatic and smart, requiring professionals with the skills to deal with Intelligent Systems. New technologies are completely transforming the world we live in, and this course will enable you to take a leading role in Industry 4.0 – you’ll learn all about machine intelligence, intelligent maintenance engineering, renewable energy technology, condition monitoring systems, and much more. You’ll benefit from our new £35 million Engineering Innovation Centre (EIC), an integrated space for teaching and research with direct links to industry, enabling you to work on live, real-world projects with commercial partners in state-of-the-art facilities. We’re located within one of the most intense engineering and manufacturing areas of the UK. You’ll get to work alongside our research active staff, with the possibility of continuing on to PhD research, and you’ll also have opportunities to work closely on industrial, research and EU projects.Future careers:After graduating from this course you’ll be equipped to pursue a wide range of technical and management careers in the field of maintenance engineering based on mechanical plants. These roles could include asset management, plant maintenance and preventative maintenance. After you graduate you will be well placed to take on a leading role as Industry 4.0 takes hold and organisations begin to implement new technologies incorporating smart machinery, artificial intelligence and the ‘Internet of Things.’Sandwich option:Our sandwich degrees offer the perfect blend of academic study and practical work experience, allowing you to build confidence in the workplace and graduate work-ready from your degree programme. Our previous graduates have found their sandwich year particularly beneficial as it has allowed them to gain practical, hands-on experience within their chosen career and the opportunity to learn directly from professionals based out in industry. It is not uncommon for sandwich year programmes to also open up future work opportunities in similar fields or professions for our graduates.
