The MSc Innovation and Sustainable Hospitality draws upon the research expertise, knowledge and experience of the global hospitality industries area and engages with a range of diverse practitioners. You’ll learn problem-solving and practical skills, equipping you with industry-based knowledge and competences. Through interactions with practitioners and participation in field trips, you’ll be challenged to apply this knowledge in practice and develop the practical skills that will equip them for a career in different areas of management, consultancy, and research. This course will cover different facets of hospitality and innovation as practised within and across countries at different levels of development and within a variety of business and management cultures. As hospitality expands further into emerging markets and the demands for highly skilled and intellectually agile graduates increases, the leading managers of tomorrow must not only be technically-adept in terms of mastering a wide portfolio of skills.
How You'll Learn
Employer engagement will be embedded throughout the course both in the delivery of the curriculum which will include guest speakers and industry visits as well as through the involvement in industry professionals in the assessments such as a “Dragons Den” assessment for the final Research Project. This will allow you to experience the world of sport management in an engaging and real-life approach.
The increasingly professionalised and globalised nature of these industries means that employers are looking for management/leadership graduates with an academically informed understanding of these sectors as well as the critical and analytical skills needed to reflect upon and solve a range of management-related problems.
Through a combination of academic rigour with practical engagement with innovative industry partners and applied research, this course will equip you with the knowledge, strategic vision and competencies to take a leading role in their chosen workplace. We also focus on expanding your soft skills such as developing customer relationships, teamwork, taking initiatives, self-starting, problem solving, and conflict handling have been highlighted as being in-demand from the hospitality industry. We encourage you to take a strategic approach to various sectors of the industries.
