This innovative programme is designed for students passionate about exploring the intersection of art, technology, and robotics, providing the skills and knowledge to shape the future of creative robotics.The course offers an extensive range of skills and insights essential for advancing in the field of creative robotics. You will learn how robotics can be used to create art and performances, while critically examining the ethical implications and societal impact of robotic technologies.You will develop advanced skills in programming languages such as Python and C++, and work with robotic open development frameworks such as ROS (Robot Operating System) to design, build, and test complex robotic systems.Through hands-on projects, you will design and build creative robotic systems, fostering a practical understanding of hardware and software integration. You will master digital fabrication techniques to design and construct robotic components, equipping you with the tools to bring your creative visions to life. Additionally, you will work with industrial-standard robots, including robotic arms and humanoids, gaining practical experience in programming and deploying systems used across various industries.Furthermore, you will explore how concepts of embodiment from philosophy, neuroscience and cognitive science have influenced the design of a robot’s body, mind, and environment in tandem. You will build a deep understanding of compliant and adaptive design to facilitate safe and effective Human-Robotic interaction.We are committed to ensuring that your skills are set within an ethical framework and are working to embed UAL’s Principles for Climate, Social and Racial Justice.
An honours degree in a relevant subject such as Computer Science, Data Science, Computing, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Joint Computer Science / Arts, Humanities programme.
OR an honours degree from a creative discipline with substantial computational practice such as interaction design, computer science, digital design, product design, mechanical or electric engineering, design engineering.
OR a professional qualification recognised as equivalent to an Honours degree in a design-related or creative engineering discipline.
AND typically, at least Grade B/Grade 6 at GCSE Mathematics.
