Civil engineering is an engineering discipline that focuses on the design, construction and maintenance of the infrastructure that makes up our modern society. This consists of a wide range of projects such as roads, bridges, buildings and water supply systems. Low carbon infrastructure refers to systems like transportation, energy, and buildings designed to reduce carbon emissions and environmental harm.
This course involves the integration of civil engineering principles with a focus on creating sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure. The emphasis is on designing, constructing, and managing civil projects with the goal of minimising carbon emissions and reducing the overall environmental impact.
You will undertake coursework that will encompass sustainable design principles, renewable energy integration, and low carbon materials, equipping you with the knowledge and skills needed to shape the future of infrastructure development.
In Semester 1 you will work on modules specific to low carbon technologies, alongside some optional or conversion modules. In Semester 2, you will focus on the core Civil Engineering modules and any remaining optional or conversion modules. Finally, you will also complete an individual research project. This will be associated with an aspect of low carbon infrastructure.
