The MSc in Applied Public Health is an innovative course which will strengthen your capacity to meet the varied and diverse demands of public health work and reduce health inequalities. You’ll develop the skills required to meet existing and emerging challenges in public health. This includes leadership, communication, project management, resource management and evaluation and collaborative working. This postgraduate course covers a range of public health disciplines including health protection, healthy settings, epidemiology, media and communication, along with global, national and local issues relating to public health. With an MSc in Applied Public Health you can work as a Public Health Practitioner, and also advance your career by progressing towards registration as a Specialist Practitioner in Public Health.
The aim of this module is to provide you with a framework for determining population health and wellbeing and identifying and integrating information to drive effective and efficient changes in service delivery and health care policy to improve health and wellbeing.
You will look at public health in a global manner and learn to appreciate the worldwide nature of health issues and understand the effects that national boundaries have on certain issues. You'll compare the approaches to health issues in different countries.
This module focuses on the relationship between policy, strategies and interventions with respect to the improvement of public health and wellbeing by enabling you to critically appraise the broad concepts, evidence base and debates within public health and wellbeing in urban and rural settings. You will appreciate the ways in which multiple partners can work together to ascertain salutogenically the health assets of communities, uncover health needs and reduce health inequalities.
This module aims to develop your understanding of research within health and social care. You will be presented with a broad overview of the principles of research beginning with ethical, epistemological and theoretical perspectives, and moving through qualitative and quantitative research designs, and synthesis.
The module aims to explore the key elements of health protection both globally and nationally, including the role of surveillance and monitoring in the identification and reduction of hazards to public health, such as infections, chemical hazards, poisons and environmental hazards.
This module aims to enable you to develop a critical, analytical and integrative understanding of theory, policy and practice related to healthy and sustainable settings.
This module will enable you to complete an empirical or literature based investigation in a topic relevant to your course, and contribute to the ever developing corpus of knowledge in your field. You may test a hypothesis, explore a research question or solve a problem. You'll be expected to design and conduct your own investigation and analysis, use appropriate methodologies, conceptual frameworks and analytical skills.
