Strong financial decision-making is at the heart of successful organisational strategy. At Manchester Met, we'll provide you with the tools needed to contribute to organisational activity across a range of levels.
Home to global businesses
Manchester is one of the largest financial centres outside London, so you’ll have businesses like Deloitte and KPMG on your doorstep and plenty of opportunities to network with employers. This allows us to tap into an exciting network of guest speakers and mentors that support our students to build your own professional capabilities and readiness for graduate opportunities.
Building your expertise
We’ll cover a wide range of areas including international financial reporting standards (IFRS), sustainable finance, corporate governance and financial management. You’ll learn to apply tools and models of finance theory to understand current challenges. You’ll also be able to put theory into practice by experiencing decision making in our Bloomberg Trading Room, opening in January 2025.
Your dissertation will then put your expertise to the test. It will give you the opportunity to explore a specific topic in greater depth. This might involve working with an employer to investigate a business issue or answering a challenging research question. Combined, the range of content and approaches to learning that you will experience on this course will prepare you for an exciting range of graduate roles.
Career prospects
When you graduate, you will have the knowledge and experience to work in large and small organisations in the private and public sector. It is likely that your experience could also help you progress into more senior roles.
Because our course content relates to international financial reporting standards, your degree could take you anywhere: New York, Singapore, Frankfurt and more.
Your extensive knowledge and skills could be applied to a career in:
Investment
Insurance
Mergers and Acquisitions
Hedge Funds
Stocks and Shares
Financial Planning
Graduates from this course have gone on to take up positions including Trade Administrator at BNY Mellon and Audit Assistant at PwC Malaysia.
The opportunities are limitless, you could set up your own business, carry on postgraduate research, take further professional accountancy examinations and more.
You will need a UK honours degree – at least a 2:2 – or the international equivalent, in an accounting and finance related subject, or a degree with substantial accounting content. We will also consider applications from mature students who have an appropriate level of professional experience and/or qualifications such as CCAB or an equivalent approved professional accounting body.
