Tourism, Hospitality and Events research has two broad areas. Firstly, the Institute for Transport and Tourism (ITT) undertakes applied research into transport and sustainability, and explores the relationship between tourism and sustainable development in the developed and developing worlds. Secondly, our research addresses the socio-cultural dimension of tourism and the tourist experience, most notably the phenomenon of dark tourism with work led by the internationally recognised Institute for Dark Tourism Research (iDTR). Research in the field of Tourism, Hospitality, and Events tries to identify and understand various aspects and issues in the tourism industry. The two broad areas of our research are dark tourism and transport and tourism. We adopt a practical and social-scientific perspective, covering the tourist experience, rural toursm and entrepreneurship, sustainability, service management and sports tourism. We work with partners in France, Germany, The Netherlands as well as in the UK.
Applicants need a recognised UK first degree, second class honours or above; or a UK Masters degree or equivalent qualification.
