Mathematics research at the University of Chester is undertaken by an enthusiastic and successful group of academics and their students. We would be glad to hear from potential students who would like to study for a PhD or MPhil in the area of Mathematics.
Applications are welcome from able mathematicians who are willing to work hard within their chosen research project.
We are able to supervise projects that have either a theoretical or a practical focus and we would be happy to help you to develop a plan for your project. The main requirements are an enthusiasm to engage with the project, a willingness to learn and apply new mathematics, and a careful approach to documenting progress and reporting on results.
The research work of the Mathematics team of the University has been widely recognised. In the latest UK-wide Research Assessment Framework (REF2021), over 81% of our mathematics research was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. Our academics have won and benefited from grants, including from the London Mathematical Society, the Swedish Research Council and other leading funding agencies. Our academics' research interests range across both pure and applied mathematics
To be eligible to apply for an MPhil or PhD programmes, applicants should normally have, or expect to obtain, at least an upper second class honours degree in a discipline appropriate to their intended area of research.
