Research in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering covers six broad research themes aerospace engineering, innovative manufacturing, modelling and simulation, nuclear engineering, resilient systems, and structures in extreme environments.Our postgraduate research programmes in Nuclear Engineering offer the opportunity to study in a multi-disciplinary team alongside leading academics in the field. Drawing on our expertise in fuel and reactor technology, nuclear graphite, welding technology and nuclear decommissioning we drive innovative solutions focusing on the pressing need to deliver low carbon, secure and affordable energy.Your research will be supported by state-of-the-art computational and experimental facilities. We have strong links with industry and excellent employability.
The minimum academic entry requirement is a good Second Class honours degree in a discipline directly relevant to the MPhil. Applicants will also need to show their suitability for a research programme through strong performance in research methods and project/dissertation modules completed as part of their degree. Equivalent international degree qualifications are also acceptable.
