The PhD is a higher degree awarded for a thesis presenting original research that makes a publishable contribution to knowledge or understanding. A student will be working on their own research project, working closely with their academic supervisor and with the support of other postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers and staff in their research group.Research in this programme is focused on:Tropical ecosystem response to environmental changeReconstructing Quaternary environments and sea levelsManaging consequences of climate changeGlaciology and characterising glacial terrainEcosystem modellingSoil systems and biogeochemical cyclesEnvironmental change and sustainable societies
PhD applicants should have, or be expecting to achieve, a 2:1 undergraduate degree in a relevant, related discipline or a higher qualification such as MSc or Masters by Research. International equivalent qualifications are accepted. We have research students from a range of backgrounds on a variety of projects. A 2:1 is the minimum requirement to be considered for a PhD, funded studentships are very competitive and it is likely that you would need to be predicted a high 2:1 / First-class degree.
