Programme descriptionOur MPhil Biochemistry programme enables you to undertake a research project that will improve understanding of Biochemistry.A biochemical approach aims to understand the chemical processes that occur in plants and animals. It forms the basis for investigating the function and properties of molecules, cells, tissues and whole organisms, under normal and abnormal conditions and in response to their changing environment.Examples include: cell membrane and cell wall structure and function intracellular trafficking of proteins & organelles regulation of metabolism in health and disease protein structural analysis and relationship to protein function transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells cellular recognition and interactions protein secretion and post-translational processing molecular analysis of cellular stress responses signal transduction and intracellular signalling mechanisms macromolecular assemblies and cell function.Teaching and learningPhD/MPhil programmes are based on individual research projects that last three to four years (PhD) or one year (MPhil), working with a specific Primary Supervisor and Co-Supervisor(s).Applicants are specifically matched with a Primary Supervisor and individual project based on their research interests and background.Career opportunitiesYour postgraduate research degree will open up a range of career opportunities after you graduate.
