This course brings together social and political historians, active in research on topics from the French Revolution to refugees in the 20th century. The programme provides you with thorough research training and a wide set of transferable skills in the conception, design and execution of a research project.
WHY THIS PROGRAMME
Glasgow is an outstanding resource hub for the study of Modern History. The university library holds superb printed and manuscript collections from the medieval to the present. You can also use the Baillie Collection of printed medieval and modern sources in Scottish, Irish and English history.
Our staff are all leaders in their fields and members of Centres such as the: Centre for Gender History, the Scottish Centre for War Studies and Conflict Archaeology, Andrew Hook Centre for American Studies and the Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies.
The University’s Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery provides access to primary source materials in fields such as fine art, numismatics and ethnography.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The research skills and methods you’ll gain on this programme give you the transferable skills for positions in the public and private sectors, including heritage policy and projects, media and teaching. The programme is also a good foundation for a PhD.
Entry requirements for postgraduate taught programmes are a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification (for example, GPA 3.0 or above) in a relevant subject unless otherwise specified.
