I think it has definitely gone through tough times alongside other universities, but I do think there were times that made this university, in particular, receive the Times award. The facilities and feel of the campus are mostly highlighted through its beautiful brutalist library and its environmentalist business school, but there are still questionable architectural elements that dot the campus. Student support has unfortunately degraded since before my time, especially with the removal of Residence Assistance and many restaurants, such as Roost and Func, which initially provided the university with a diverse array of foods. The navigability of the classes also depends on the fact that classes in the squares are very anti-beginner-friendly to navigate their maze-like structure. Nonetheless, its students' union remains resilient and optimistic; the location near London makes it a perfect balance for both international and home students who want to commute there, and Colchester also acts as a small but serviceable city for basic needs and wants.

The university has great places to study, the library, study areas, and electronic signs outside classrooms telling you when it’s available for studying in. However, not every desk in the libary has a plug to charge my laptop. Also, classrooms and lecture rooms lack plugs on the tables so if my laptop dies it becomes difficult to make notes. The university itself is in a great location, beautiful scenery and plenty of shops and services nearby. There are also plenty of bus stops around campus making it easier to get around and get into Colchester town centre. Student support is great. Professors and other staff respond to emails quickly, and the wellbeing team are great at putting in access arrangements for exams and assignments. The campus has some lovely green spaces, lakes and wildlife but the buildings don’t look as beautiful. Student life is great. There are plenty of places and events to hang out with friends and meet new people, like the su bar. The student union is great and often organises events, which helps people meet. The student union also provide information about important issues like the recent strikes, and debate other issues with students.

If you want to experience the ‘uni life’ of going out lots, this uni wouldn’t be the right one. There is only one club in the town and then the SU club. The actual learning faculties and lecturers are really good here. I have also felt supported if I required it.

Best is definitely student union, they always have something planned and make sure everyone is always happy and included. Worst is how confusing the main academic buildings are, it’s genuinely a maze.
