Our four-year BA Modern Languages degree programme with a Year Abroad is aimed at students wanting to develop their language skills in French, German or Spanish. You will spend a year abroad either on a paid British Council Language Assistant work placement, or studying in one or two countries with our partner universities. This Year Abroad will provide you with valuable experiences, boosting your student experience and employment prospects. You will be able to choose from a flexible range of modules looking at areas such as film, gender studies, medieval and early modern literature, theatre studies and translation. You will benefit from access to excellent resources at our Singleton Park campus, including access to our dedicated language labs and weekly language cafes where you will get the chance to interact with native speakers in the languages you are studying. Outside of your studies you can further connect with native speakers through our many clubs and societies including the French, German and Hispanic Societies. Modern languages at Swansea is ranked 6th in the UK (Guardian University Guide 2024). Research in Modern Languages at Swansea has been rated as internationally excellent and world-leading (REF 2021).
