Queen's University Belfast

As a mature student I can say that QUB caters for my needs as much as the younger students. I always feel involved and welcomed with lots of facilities and clubs for me. The atmosphere and friendliness of QUB is second to none with every lecturer happy to help. I always get the feeling that staff at queens really would like me to do well

I think queens university has a nice location and all buildings are in close proximity. I love the different cafes/study spaces available. Nothing

The location is in a good part of belfast where most things are walking distance. The student union is a great hub where you can meet people and specifically people from different courses that u may not get to speak to otherwise

Support services: I have availed of these as I had a baby who was born early and had a cardiac arrest. QUB have been so supportive putting education plans in place to help me achieve my phd, weekly support with Megan at well being wednesdays, offering free counselling sessions. honestly the support has been unreal. The students union really value and listen to the students and i can see them trying to make sure that voice is heard at all levels. How it could be improved is not really down to the uni, but more the financial support needs to be more, given the current cost of living crisis. So through stipends. I also have children in childcare. The cost is astronomical. so, better guidance from the government tax tax-free childcare for PGR students would be great as we technically work full-time. the biggest barriers to students completing degrees are often the financial ones.

The best aspect is the level of support. My PhD is not a taught degree and I have been out of academia for several years. However the level of support I have received from the staff is incredible. The worst part is really an infrastructure issue. The parking around the university is completely inadequate and I often work at home as a result. This saddens me because I would rather be in the university alongside other students. I can’t use public transport for several reasons so I need to use my car if I’m going in there.
