Our Medical Genetics programme, taught jointly by Queen Mary University of London's Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences, is a unique opportunity to study medical topics within the context of classical, chromosomal, population and molecular genetics. You’ll build a strong scientific understanding of the genetic and molecular basis of human health, development and disease, and explore the evolution of diseases within human populations. You’ll study the mitochondrial and human genomes in depth and be introduced to medical research, genetic counselling and bioethics. In the final year you have the chance to design your own project, supervised by our experts, developing the skills to become a researcher in your own right. The Medical Genetics programme will prepare you for careers in medical research, the pharmaceutical industry and health sciences. Many of our students go into scientific roles such as clinical and laboratory work, postgraduate study or science communication. Others transfer their skills into sectors such as marketing and finance.
