Virtually every product in the modern world has been shaped in some way by a mechanical engineer, from everyday items to new technologies.At Aberdeen, we believe that the world needs more mechanical engineers to help tackle some of the biggest issues of today, including providing sustainable energy, efficient and sustainable transport solutions and machines to increase yields in food production.If you are interested in the mechanics and dynamics of movement, have an aptitude for and fascination with how things work, and want to contribute positively to sustainability and making people's lives better then you should consider mechanical engineering as a career choice.Our teaching is supported by world-class facilities, including laboratories dedicated to particular areas of work such as satellite communications, computer-aided design, electrical machines, materials testing, laser welding, hydraulics and fluids, large structures and geotechnics. Our interdisciplinary approach at Aberdeen means that during your first two years, you will study elements of civil, chemical, petroleum and electrical/electronics, as well as mechanical. In the later years, you specialise, following your chosen discipline in greater depth.
