Overview and aims of the Programme

Many employers need professional engineers who have a broad understanding of key engineering disciplines and expertise in more than one area. Mechanical and electrical engineers have a wide set of skills which they can apply to complex engineering challenges and use to interact with engineers across specialisms. Our multidisciplinary course, built around electrical, electronic, and mechanical engineering topics, aims to produce experts in the areas of manufacturing, mechatronics, computer-aided design, and renewable energy. Your broad knowledge of the various aspects of engineering will ensure you can interact with engineers across the disciplines, as well as being familiar with the business environment.Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to explore a range of authentic engineering problems and industry-focused scenarios, to work on both individually and with student engineers from other degree programmes. Group work mirrors the relationships of an engineering team and will help you to build professional skills, such as teamwork and communication. Our open access makerspace provides a place for you to design, create and collaborate. You will have the opportunity to complete a salaried placement working in a location of your choosing, including outside of the UK. This is a great way to experience a professional working environment and put the skills you have learned into practice. In the past, our students have completed placements at Boeing, Network Rail, Siemens, Keysight Technologies and Bosch. The MEng degree programme allows you to expand and strengthen your knowledge in integrated engineering. You will benefit from advanced learning in design and management and multidisciplinary engineering design projects.
