Our six-year Medicine With a Gateway Year programme is a Widening Participation initiative designed to facilitate access to Medicine for those from underrepresented backgrounds. Applicants must meet our widening participation criteria to be eligible to apply for this programme. Applications are welcomed from students from across the UK although local applicants are given priority in the selection process.
The Gateway Year forms the first academic year, based on the University of Hull campus. This year focuses on bringing your scientific knowledge up to the required standard and enhancing your study skills, while also learning about professionalism and the NHS.
You will also visit GP and hospital settings in Hull and the local area, coming into contact with real patients - so you begin to develop the excellent communication skills and confident, empathetic approach to delivering care that are the hallmark of our graduates.
On successful completion of the Gateway Year, you will automatically progress to our five-year Medicine programme. Innovative, distinctive, and specifically designed to meet the challenges of 21st century healthcare, our Medicine programme truly prepares you for life as a doctor.
At the end of your studies, you will graduate thoroughly prepared for clinical practice, with an MB BS degree awarded jointly by the University of Hull and the University of York.

A levels: BBC (B grades must be in Biology and Chemistry). Maximum predicted grades: ABB. A levels should normally be completed within a three-year period. Resits within this three-year period are accepted. You should not be predicted or have achieved higher than ABB to apply to this programme. We accept all A level subjects from UK exam boards, including General Studies and Critical Thinking. At Hull, we do not count results in the same subject at both AS and A levels also known as double-counting. As an example, if you study for an AS and an A level in History, only the A level will count towards your Tariff score, regardless of which is the better grade. We accept International A-levels (such as Cambridge International A levels) as being equivalent to any other UK A-level. We recognise Singapore CIE A Level (H2) as equivalent to the UK A level but the A level (H1) as equivalent to UK AS level. For applicants whose first language is not English, we accept a variety of English language tests (e.g. IELTS - 6.0 overall (with a minimum 5.5 in each skill); 5.5 overall with 5.5 in each skill accepted for entry to degrees with integrated foundation year) and they are listed on our International Entry Requirements page.

International Baccalaureate: 29 points overall, with 14 at HL (to include Biology and Chemistry at Grade 5). We welcome applications based on the IB Diploma, and a pass in the Diploma meets the general degree entry requirements. Typically, offers for IB Diploma students are around 28-30 IB points. Some programmes require study beforehand at Higher Level (e.g. maths HL for maths degree entry).
